British Buys: Our Christmas Picks

gifts wrapped in Christmas paper

It’s that time of the year again. Once more, despite my promises to get everything sorted early, we are nearing mid-November and I haven’t bought a single thing yet. Anyway, read on for some of the best things we’ve spotted lately. They might make a great gift for someone… or yourself.

David Bailey Arts

I first noticed David Bailey’s whimsical paintings of beach huts and seagulls in a local town group on Facebook. The Kent-based artist paints colourful watercolours of the area’s coastal towns. I instantly loved them and now have three of his paintings on my bedroom wall, one of a row of beach huts, one comical depiction of seagulls, and a landscape of Ramsgate Harbour. In other words, I’m a fan. Check out his art on his website.

English Heritage

You are always sure to find wonderful ideas, both for your own home and as gifts for others at English Heritage. We love this robin tree ornament. New this year is a special collection of gift items to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II. The scarf, tote bag, and other items are all decorated with lily-of-the-valley and the white rose. Elsewhere, you’ll find fabulous food items, books, and more. There’s something for everyone on your list. Denby Pottery

Well-made pottery in classic designs never goes out of style. Denby Pottery has been made in Derbyshire since 1809 and their products are as beautiful and enduring today as they were 200 years ago. They have dozens of options for hosting or for host gifts. We particularly love their new stars collection. The dark blue or white porcelain with gold star accents would make a definite statement at Christmas dinner, while the candle pot is always a great gift idea. Shop online at www.denbypottery.com.

Wild & Game Meats

Venison, pheasant, rabbit, wild boar. These and other game meats are available from Wild and Game. Since 2017, the company has offered responsibly-sourced game from British fields. Their selection includes hampers, meats, fish, pies, and ready meals such as venison lasagne. Subscription boxes are also available.
