Two of this week’s British buys are for those with a love of the British countryside, while the third is a British tipple from a company that may not be on your radar. As always, we encourage you to support British artists and businesses. And what better way to do so than by doing a little gift shopping or ordering a few treats for yourself!
Dave Zdanowicz Photography
If you are not following Dave Z Photography on social media, you have been missing out on some of the best images to brighten your day. We all know that the UK has some truly breathtaking scenery. For Bradford-based photographer Dave Zdanowicz, the landscapes of Yorkshire provide a never-ending source of inspiration. Whether he is up at the crack of dawn to catch the perfect sunrise, or waiting patiently for snowfall over Haworth, Dave continues to capture one magical image after another. Why not enjoy some of his favourite scenes with one of his 2021 calendars? Available with views of either Bradford or Yorkshire, these calendars make a wonderful gift. They are also a welcome splash of inspiration on your office or kitchen wall. You can also find a number of books and prints for purchase on his website.
Exeter Gin
The British gin revival has birthed a number of distilleries and gin bars all around the country. Could a G&T and a slice of cake become the 21st century version of afternoon tea? One family-owned gin company to check out is Exeter Gin, producing small batches in a traditional copper still. Their primary gins celebrate Exeter’s Roman and Naval heritage and feature a carefully selected range of botanicals, including marigold, cardamom, and, of course, juniper berries. Personally, I’m partial to a little rhubarb-flavoured gin, especially with a dash of ginger ale. Fortunately Grandad’s Allotment Rhubarb Gin is just the ticket! Ever adaptable during the COVID pandemic, the Exeter Gin folks also produce hand sanitiser so keep a small bottle in your purse for when you are out and about.
Jacob McAtear Greeting Cards
Some might say that letter writing is a dying art. But these beautiful greetings cards from Lake District artist and writer Jacob McAtear will have you putting pen to paper and reaching out to an old friend. Cumbrian local Jacob puts out a regular newsletter in which he shares musings and observations from his rambles around the lakes. He also shares a sketch or a photo of the nature he glimpses. Now you can buy greetings cards, either of solo images or accompanied by snippets of poetry. The cards use sustainably produced and harvested FSC certified paper and vegetable-based inks. Even the “plastic” wrapper is plastic-free, made of vegetable starch, and is therefore fully compostable. Buy 10 or more cards and get a 25% discount!
Please note that these British buys are simply items we come across that we want to share with you. We are not compensated in any way for including them. If you come across any British foods, crafts, arts, etc. that you think we might want to share, let us know.
