Things have been a bit quiet on the site lately because I’ve been busy catching up on some home decorating. That’s taken me down a lot of shopping rabbit holes and so read on for some wonderfully creative British buys that are sure to liven up your living space. These aren’t paid promotions or ads, just a selection of things I’ve come across that I really like.
Platinum Jubilee
It’s hard to ignore all of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, but if you are just now finding that you didn’t buy any nice collectibles to remember the occasion, don’t worry. Goviers is the source for official jubilee memorabilia. Plates, mugs, teacups, teddy bears, Christmas tree ornaments, even a porcelain corgi. There is a huge array to choose from in their Platinum Jubilee Collection, perfect for your own display case or as a gift. Goviers also has a wide selection of other non-Jubilee porcelain and china.
A Nostalgia-Filled Candle
Who remembers Shippams paste? It was one of those things you either loved or hated, but the memory of those little jars of fish paste fills me with nostalgia. The Shippams company began selling their products in 1750 and they became particularly known for potted meat and fish paste. So when I learned that there is someone who makes beeswax candles in the shape of those wonderful little jars, I was intrigued. Askew Candles uses 100% British beeswax to make these wonderful additions to your bookshelf. They are a mere £7 each with free shipping in the UK. Now if only they could capture that fish paste smell…. (Don’t worry – these smell of beautiful beeswax).
For Indoors, Outdoors, Summer, Christmas…
Just about everything from this fab Etsy store is on my wishlist. Karandave is based in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall. From their Art Shed, they make lasercut mobiles and decorative ornaments like this stunning Cornish dragon. Choose from woodland dioramas, window hangings, birds, mermaids, Christmas tree ornaments and so much more. These pieces will look beautiful wherever you put them, and will make a great conversation piece when your friends see them.
Ceramics from the Cotswolds
Is your kitchen cupboard a jumbled mess of mugs? The only one left of what was once a full set, and a bunch of random ones that you picked up… who knows where? If that’s the case, treat yourself to a gorgeous set of new ceramic mugs, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and afternoon tea. Amelia Rose Bowen owns and operates a small ceramic workshop in Bourton on the Water. In addition to beautiful mugs, you can also find gorgeous bowls. So maybe it’s time to fancy up your breakfast table.
